Elsecar Heritage Centre

Elsecar sits in the Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Coal mining and iron making had taken place here for centuries, but from the late 18th Century the village was transformed. A canal was cut, a deep colliery sunk and two mighty ironworks built. WAM have been working up proposals to develop a mixed-use development on this remarkable Heritage Site and have provided the backbone to Elsecar’ Leveling up bid.  Barnsley’s historic Elsecar Heritage Centre has been awarded almost £4m to transform it into an “internationally recognised visitor destination”.
