Sitooterie is a Scottish colloquial term meaning “a place in which to sit out”. For this writer’s hut Wignall & Moore were tasked with creating a place to watch the world swim by, a place to watch the clouds float over and a place to hear the sheep dive in.
The completed building used architecture as a canvas, painting a landscape with low carbon, coloured concrete. Earthy pigments in the meandering layers of the concrete wall provide texture and colour. The wall acts as a three-dimensional painting, enveloping the chimney breast and staircase, referencing the strata of the river and the undulations of the land.
